An irreverent children’s puppet show for adults- part Muppets, part Ren and Stimpy.  This series of lively vignettes features two mischievous puppies who re-engineer a cat, get shot in the face, cheat at a science fair, destroy all life on earth, and discover the true meaning of Easter.  Not recommended for children under 10 due to scenes of comic violence.

Holocene and local puppetry collective Beady Little Eyes will present POP + PUPPETRY, an interdisciplinary extravaganza for the eyes and ears! 3 puppeteers of diverse styles (just a portion of what will be included: blacklight puppetry, humanettes, and architectural fashion incorporated with puppetry) will be paired with 3 inventive Portland-based pop artists. Aaron Chapman of Nurses will perform new Nurses material as a solo set, Chelsea Uniqorn of Unicorn Domination will do a theremin-heavy set, and Yeah Great Fine will bring the party! Each puppeteer will present an original puppet show created especially for this event and synced to their partner artist’s entire set. The results should be dazzling, and help to elevate the experience of both artistic mediums when combined. We’ll also be screening puppet films between acts, and offering a DIY shadow puppet station!

Melvin the Birder : Now online!

Katie McClenahan

IBEX Puppetry and Beady Little Eyes produced a live-action puppet short film last year, Melvin the Birder.  We've been included in some exciting film festivals this year all over the United States and hopefully there are more to come.  In the meantime, we've made the short live for all to see on Vimeo.  SEE IT HERE, pass it on and enjoy.  It will warm your birdseed-loving heart.

Zen Shorts this weekend too!

Katie McClenahan

ALSO HAPPENING THIS WEEKEND: Tears of Joy Theatre is collaborating with Rogue Artists Ensemble of Los Angeles to bring Zen Shorts, based on the beloved book by Jon J. Muth, to Imago Theatre February 6th – 15th. This is an unusual collaboration, with Rogue bringing the show which they produced, and Tears of Joy providing some of their puppeteers to perform the show. Support from the National Endowment for the Arts is making the project possible.

The book by Jon J. Muth was named a Caldecott Honor Book and spent 41 weeks on the New York Times Best Seller List.

Tickets are now available for the next puppet slam!

Friday Feb 13 show @ 8pm

Saturday Feb 14 show @ 8pm

Beady Little Eyes and Tears of Joy Theatre presents a very Cupid-y, Valentine’s Day weekend edition of PUPPET SHOWS! This puppet slam will feature artists from the West Coast as well as a special guest artists, Joshua and Nicholas of The Joshua Show, all the way from NYC! Due to strong language and the possibility of other lewd things that only felted beings can get away with on stage, the recommended age is 14 and up. Tickets are $10 in advance / $12 at the door. The show will take place two evenings, Friday Feb 13 and Saturday Feb 14 @ 8pm. The shows will be different due to mixing of acts and off-the-cuff comments. Attending both shows is highly recommended if you want to experience full-on puppetness. Bring a first date to the Saturday night show and get $2 off your ticket(s).
